Proton had a big sales increase of 13.6% in May 2024 compared to the previous month. They sold 12,522 cars in total, both in Malaysia and for export. This puts them in second place among local car brands, with a total of 62,697 cars sold in the first five months of the year.

In May, they also sent out the most cars for export this year, with 509 units shipped overseas. Proton has now expanded into Trinidad & Tobago, Bangladesh, and Iraq. Overall, they've shipped 1,344 cars globally in 2024 so far.

In May, the Proton Saga stayed on top as the best-selling model for Proton, both at home and abroad, with a total of 6,119 units sold. Out of these, 360 were sold overseas, while in Malaysia, it remained the second most popular A-segment sedan.

Sales for the Saga shot up by 21.6% compared to April, reaching a total of 29,397 units sold since the beginning of the year, marking an 8% increase over the same period in 2023.

The Proton S70 came in second in May, with 2,011 units sold, keeping its position as Malaysia's favorite C-segment sedan. This was a 23% jump from April's sales of 1,635 units. With a total of 9,474 units sold, the S70 became the second most popular Proton model overall.

In May, the Proton X90 reclaimed its spot as the best-selling D-segment SUV in Malaysia, with 364 units sold. So far this year, Proton has sold a total of 1,741 units of this flagship model.

Meanwhile, the Proton X50 sold 1,407 units in May but lost its title as Malaysia’s top B-segment SUV. Proton is optimistic about increased demand following the launch of the revamped X50 this week, which adds new features while keeping the price unchanged.

"As we head into the second half of 2024, Proton's focus will be on increasing sales by updating our existing models. We're also taking our first steps into the electric vehicle market, thanks to our partnership with Geely. So, stay tuned for some exciting announcements in the coming months!" explained Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar.
